Ashton Speaks out on labour day
“Labour Day is more than just a holiday. It recognizes the many advancements that working people have achieved over the years.”
Ashton stressed the key role the Labour movement has played in Manitoba in recent years. “We have worked hard to bring people together to work on everything from workplace safety and health to training and economic development The Labour movement has been a key part of that.”
Ashton also spoke out in support of striking Sudbury Steelworkers.”They are fighting for decent wages and pensions,” he stressed.
The MLA said he knows this is a difficult time for the Steelworkers, their families and the community.”Before I was elected I worked underground at Inco in Thompson. We were on strike and I know what it is like to walk a picket line. We understand what they are going through. ”
